Ironing Symbols

The ironing symbol looks like an iron, with a number of dots representing how hot the iron should be. When ironing, some people associate ironing temperatures with the garment fabric, but the care label should always also be consulted especially when the garment is a mixture of more than one fabric.

Iron at Maximum Heat
Corresponds to a 200ºC temperature. This is the linen/cotton setting. A steam iron may be used.

medium iron

Iron at Medium Heat
Corresponds to a 150ºC temperature. This is the wool/silk/polyester setting. A steam iron may be used, but avoid heavy pressure.

low iron
Iron at Low Heat
Corresponds to a 150ºC temperature. This is the nylon/synthetic setting. A steam iron should generally not be used, or with caution if necessary.

Ironing the garment can cause irreversible damage
