Dead Washing Machine

Washing Machine Repair

Washing Machine Is On But Won't Do Anything

The most common cause of this problem is the door interlock. This is a safety feature to prevent any operation while the door is open. If this becomes faulty, the washer may still not work even when the door is closed. Check that when closing the door, the catch is activating the switch. To test the switch, first make sure the WASHER IS NOT PLUGGED IN, then use an electrician's meter to test the resistance across the switch. You should put the two electrodes on the contacts at the back of the switch. When the door is closed, the resistance reading should read a very low value.

Another possible cause for this is a fault on the timer. You should inspect the connecting wires for any sign of burnt plastic or charring on the spade connectors. You will need to replace the timer if this is the problem.
